POSITION DESCRIPTION
The focus of the Group Manager & Events Coordinator is to build on the substantial profile, existing revenue, and membership base of the organisation, to service the members while leading the strategic promotion, industry engagement, and operational delivery of initiatives that increase superyacht visitation and economic outcomes for the Great Barrier Reef region.
The Group Manager & Events Coordinator is responsible for delivery of the organisation’s events such as the annual Superyacht and Commercial conferences, boat show coordination and events. Regular overseas travel to events will be required.
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The key purpose of this role is to support the Chief Executive Officer to ensure maximum support and retention of Great Barrier Reef members including commercial marine businesses. And ensure the success of all events in order to assist in developing effective and efficient promotion of AIMEX, ACMG and Superyacht Australia members.
INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE
Required to have qualifications in event or project management. Required to quickly gain an understanding of the Marine and Superyacht Industries. Ability to quickly develop key stakeholder and member relationships essential.

AIMEX is the peak body for the marine export industry in Australia, founded in 1998. The key focus of the organisation is to provide services and support that assist in the development and growth of AIMEX members involved in the marine export market.AIMEX is a national organisation based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Membership comprises of boat builders, designers, equipment and accessory manufacturers who wish to drive their export markets.
AIMEX also manages the Australian superyacht industry peak body; Superyacht Australia, which it took responsibility for from 2010. The focus of Superyacht Australiais to promote Australia as a preferred cruising destination for Superyachts from throughout the world. In doing so Superyacht Australia promotes Australian infrastructure, services and facilities and manufacturers of yachts, ensuring consistent growth and development of all facets of the Australian Superyacht industry.
The Australian Commercial Marine Group (ACMG), created under the AIMEX umbrella in 2015 is the leading industry body supporting, developing, and promoting the Australian Commercial Marine Industry both nationally and internationally. ACMG is responsible for managing the Sydney NYE Harbour Lights program and involved in the organisation of the on-water program for Vivid annually.
The Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef (SYGGBR) was a separate not‑for‑profit industry body that has now merged into AIMEX/Superyacht Australia in 2025. It remains dedicated to positioning the Great Barrier Reef as a premier global superyacht destination. The organisation works collaboratively with members and stakeholders to promote cruising, refit & maintenance, charter services and regional tourism opportunities across Cairns, the Whitsundays and the Torres Strait.
