The Wooden Boatshop are dedicated team of master craftsman and marine specialists,
building and restoring wooden boats at our purpose-built facility in Sorrento, Victoria.
We’re currently seeking a junior or early-career person to join our lead marine trimmer and
assist with the fabrication and fitting of marine covers and boat upholstery.
In this entry-level position you’ll be given on the job training and the opportunity to undertake an
apprenticeship (Certificate III in Automotive and Marine Trimming Technology).
Essential skills you’ll bring to the role are:
- An aptitude for handwork and working with precision
- Curiosity and a capacity for problem solving
With a commitment to developing skills in:
- Reading and recording measurements accurately
- Precisely measuring and cutting fabrics
- Reading and working from work orders and technical drawings
- Working with hand tools, power tools and industrial sewing machines
- Patterning and fabricating marine covers and upholstery
- Working at heights or on water to pattern and fit covers
- Leatherwork, rope splicing and sail making
With training, your key duties will include:
- Repairing and making alterations to marine covers, upholstery and sails
- Assisting with patterning and fabricating of marine covers and upholstery
- Measuring and cutting fabrics
- Operating industrial sewing machines and power tools
- Assisting with fitting and installing boat covers and upholstery
- Hand stitching, ropework and rigging
- Maintaining workshop cleanliness and safety

player who enjoys practical, hands-on work in an engaging and supportive workplace
environment.
Award rates apply, full or part-time hours are available.
